The electrode is the part that actually dissipates fault current into the soil — a galvanized pipe or plate buried in the ground. The strip is the galvanized flat that connects to it, bonding equipment and structures back to that electrode and carrying fault current to it. A complete installation needs both, and both are normally hot dip galvanized because they sit in soil and weather for decades.
No. Paint leaves a film sitting on top of the steel. Hot dip galvanizing is a metallurgical reaction: the steel is immersed in molten zinc at roughly 450 °C, and iron and zinc interdiffuse to form three iron–zinc alloy layers beneath an outer layer of pure zinc. Those alloy layers are part of the section rather than a coating on it, so there is no boundary for the coating to lift or peel from. Published hardness figures put the delta and gamma alloy layers near 244 and 250 DPN — harder than the mild steel they protect, at about 159 DPN — which is why a galvanized surface survives handling and site work that would strip paint.
Tell us the service condition and we galvanize to the figure you specify. Coating is quoted either in microns or in grams per square metre of surface. Buried and permanently damp ground, coastal air and industrial atmospheres all justify a heavier coating than a dry indoor location. IS 2629 covers the recommended practice for hot dip galvanizing of iron and steel, IS 4759 covers zinc coatings on structural steel, and IS 3043 is the code of practice for earthing. If your drawing or tender already names a coating, send it and we work to that.
Copper conducts better and resists corrosion better, and it remains the usual choice for high fault levels and critical installations. Galvanized steel costs a fraction of it and is widely used for general industrial, building and solar earthing where the soil suits it. IS 3043 recognises both. If you are unsure, send us the fault current, the soil resistivity and the standard you are working to, and we will tell you what we can supply against it.
Earthing strip and flat are made to the width and thickness you need; common earthing flats run from about 25 × 3 mm up to 75 × 10 mm, cut to your length. We also supply hot dip galvanized angle, channel, flat and square bar, along with galvanized pipe and plate earthing electrodes. Send us the section and the quantity and we will confirm what we can make against it.
Yes — hot dip galvanizing job work is part of what we do. Send the sections or fabrications, the quantity and the coating thickness you want, and we will quote the job work rate. One design note: hollow and closed sections need adequate vent and drain holes so molten zinc can flow through and air can escape, otherwise the part cannot be galvanized safely.
We work from Shed No. 17, Gajanan Industrial Hub-2, Vinzol Patiya, GIDC Estate, Vatva, Ahmedabad 382445, and supply across Gujarat and the rest of India. Ahmedabad and the surrounding GIDC estates are usually served quickest.
